It’s not news to anyone that energy drinks are everywhere and are only becoming more and more common as time passes. Whether you need help getting started in the morning or are trying to carry yourself to the end of a long work day, the jolt of energy is just what the doctor ordered.
BUT, many question if the energy boost is worth all of the potential health risks that come along with the toxic ingredients usually found in popular energy drinks. We have spent a lot of time diving into ingredient lists of your most commonly recognized energy drink brands including Red Bull, Monster, and Rockstar just to name a few. These ingredient lists included more than a few things we found startling, from huge amounts of synthetic caffeine, sweeteners, and flavors that do not bode well for any consumer drinking them on a regular basis… and so, we broke down what is the best alternative to these common energy drinks in our 2020 Guide to Energy Drinks where we found a very clear winner in the healthy energy drink department.
So what’s this about “the world’s first and only healthy energy drink” that we keep hearing about as we dive into 2021? Since we already took a deep dive into most of the popular energy drinks on the market, this bold claim caught our attention and is what brings us here today. We are taking a closer look at ZOA, a new line of energy drinks hitting shelves later this year with actor and retired professional wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson helping to lead the charge as a co-founder. With a release date later this year, a complete ingredient list is not available; however, there is enough information for us to take an first look at the drink line.
The Rock has stated that each serving of ZOA contains “100% Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin B, Essential Aminos, Camu Camu, Turmeric, Antioxidants, Acerola, Choline, and finally a healthy does of 160mg of natural caffeine from green tea extracts and green coffee beans.” It is good to finally see more energy drink companies using natural caffeine sources rather than synthetically produced caffeine. We have an extensive breakdown of the benefits of green tea caffeine vs. synthetic caffeine and this is definitely a plus. So, does ZOA live up to the claim of being “the world’s first and only healthy energy drink”?
Without seeing the full nutrition label, it’s impossible to say for sure. A nutrition consultant with the food network reminded readers that many energy drinks are not even regulated by the FDA and so until we have all of the information, it’s hard to say exactly how healthy or un-healthy the drink is. The ZOA website has mentions of the drink including several vitamins, essential aminos, and antioxidants but this information is vague and still leaves questions unanswered about the caloric content and the types of sweeteners used. So, we wait to see what details the nutrition label holds...but in the meantime we just so happen to know of an already available healthy and clean energy drink with killer taste, KILL CLIFF.
KILL CLIFF IGNITE is a sugar-free energy drink naturally sweetened with erythritol and stevia that delivers the jolt you crave with 150 mg of naturally-sourced green tea caffeine (about a cup and a half of coffee). Additionally, KILL CLIFF IGNITE includes only FDA-regulated ingredients in its specialized blend of B-vitamins and electrolytes. It also provides 10% of your daily values of magnesium and potassium, which helps regulate hydration and blood flow.
What’s interesting after all of this is that when you take it to the internet…. I’ll just let you check it out.
That's funny... they all seem to point to a clean and healthy energy drink that has obviously existed long before 2021 and has already helped thousands of Americans free themselves from toxic energy drinks… spoilers, it’s not ZOA.
Your decision matters. Choose clean energy drinks. Choose KILL CLIFF.
