UFC rematches are hard to come by, but Kill Cliff Fight Club fighter Gilbert Burns would love to have another go at Khamzat Chimaev. The two gave a fight for the ages during UFC 273 in April as they slugged it out to a unanimous decision for the still-undefeated Chimaev. (While UFC chief Dana White said at the presser that the Alexander Volkanovski-Chan Sung Jung bout was “the fight of the night,” we, and many others, beg to differ.)
Burns (20-5) believes he can fix what went wrong if given another chance. He told MMA Underground: “I'm very critical of myself. I think if I had done a little bit more stuff—such as calf kicks, body kicks when he switched stance, calf kicks when he was orthodox, freaking head movement that I trained so much and didn't do as planned—I think I could have got the win.”
We think so too! In fact, that last round…
"I was the one that threw more shots in the last round, but I got hurt in the last round. I got hurt for a moment. I remember I was very wobbly, and then he gave me another shot that kind of rolled me up, and then I got back and I was throwing a lot of bombs, but I liked it, like every time I've been in there.
“For sure, I hate to lose. I think I've made that clear a couple times. But yeah, I like to be in there."
And we’d love to see it!
And maybe Dana White would like to see it, too. He liked the fight so much he gave the bout the $50,000 “Fight of the Night” bonus and gave Burns an additional bonus. Come on, let’s do this!
