I discovered CrossFit through a Twitter post by Men’s Health, promoting a Hero WOD. My brother and I both took it upon ourselves to test out this “CrossFit thing” and see how we held up. It crushed us. Shortly after my initial exposure to CrossFit, I was formally introduced to the methodology and movements by a friend who had been an avid “Kool-Aid drinker” since 2011. He began teaching me movements like the snatch and muscle-ups and refining my movement patterns and tendencies. One month later I took part in the 2014 CrossFit Open, where I finished 101st, and immediately caught the competitive bug. Since then, I have been actively coaching, competing and educating myself in CrossFit. I also qualified for and competed at the 2016 Central Regional.
Prior to becoming the head coach here at KSAC, I was a touring musician for 10 years. While touring, I would drop into boxes worldwide and do my best to learn and understand all the endless possibilities in CrossFit, coaching, culture and even equipment. It was an amazing and invaluable experience.
I now live in Kalamazoo, where I spend every moment possible loving my amazing life, especially my beautiful wife Jessica and our maltese Sofia, coaching or training at Kalamazoo Strength and Conditioning, and anything to do with sports or the outdoors. My other passions include music, art, coffee, food, local business, travel, and my family.
