Many people would admit, without their daily cup of coffee, they wouldn’t be as productive. More simply put, caffeine keeps the world running.

Caffeine is an alkaloid occurring naturally in plants. It’s commonly found in drinks like soda, coffee, tea, and energy beverages. The amount of caffeine consumed varies depending on the strength of the drink and amount consumed, with cup size playing a role.

Caffeine has lots of benefits. Most prominent is its ability to improve mental alertness. Since it’s easy to ingest—think a downing a quick drink before the gym or work—it’s convenient and enjoyable. It’s also one of the most commonly used stimulants among athletes.

However, with all the benefits of caffeine there are also negative side effects: Caffeine can cause insomnia, nervousness, restlessness, and a host of other unintentional consequences, including anxiety, rapid breathing, and increased stress levels, even after drinking modest doses.

But wait: A hero emerges! Enter an ingredient that is growing in popularity due to its calming benefits: Cannabidiol, better known these days as CBD.

CBD is known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-seizure abilities that can combat depression and stress. And while there are many ways to ingest CBD—gummies, capsules, vape pens, and tinctures, among them—having the substance already in the beverage makes it that much simpler.

When CBD is in caffeinated products, the jitteriness one might feel from the stimulant is cancelled by the calming effect of the CBD, essentially evening you out.

At night when you’re trying to get some shut eye, CBD helps bring you to quieter pastures, letting your muscles recover as you get a full eight hours.
