It was superb weekend of MMA action for Kill Cliff FC fighters last week. Except, of course, for that eye poke.
FIRST, THE GOOD NEWS:
“Merciless” Mitch McKee put his undefeated bantamweight record on the line against Tony Ortega in McKee’s Bellator debut. McKee came out on top, dominating Ortega with a ground-and-pound scheme to take the bout in 1:28 of the second round of Bellator 284. It didn’t hurt to have Kill Cliff FC’s Robbie Lawler in his corner!
KCFC’S Dilano Taylor scored an important victory last Saturday in the PFL welterweight semifinal. His stunning TKO over Rory MacDonald (23-9-1) set his record at 10-2 professionally and proved he could perform on short notice. Taylor was called up to replace No. 4-seed Magomed Umalatov who couldn’t get to the fight thanks to a fluky visa. Now the newly revived Taylor will face Sadibou Sy (12-6) by virtue of his own victory on Saturday when he decisioned Carlos Leal. Stay tuned!
AND THE NOT-SO-GOOD NEWS:
Aye, aye, aye! That stings! Kill Cliff FC’s “Tall” Steve Mowry got an eye poke less than a minute into his heavyweight bout with Valentin Moldavsky in Bellator 284 last week. The no-contest doesn’t blemish his 10-0-0 record but it sets him back until he can resume the tilt.
LOOKING AHEAD
Friday:
This week’s Kill Cliff FC action finds featherweight Landry Ward, “the Lone Star Kid,” at 5-1, taking on Carlos Rivera, 14-6) in a Combate Global Main Card bout in Miami. Happy to see Ward is heavily favored but tune in to Paramount+ Friday night at 11 p.m. ET to view it.
Saturday:
- Louisiana welterweight AJ Fletcher, aka “the Ghost,” looks to give up the spirit against Kill Cliff FC powerhouse Ange “the Last Ninja” Loosa (8-3) at UFC 278 in Salt Lake City, Utah. This, of course, is the event with the Kamaur Usman/ Leon Edwards rematch, as if you needed to be told. Should be a nice crowd!
- In the lightweight division, KCFC’s Jared “Flash” Gordon (18-5) and Leonardo Santos (18-6-1) mix it up (to put it gently) in a battle of the cage veterans.
Watch it all on ESPN+.
